The seed of CDU dates back to Darwin in the 1950s. With no offices or permanent staff, shorthand and French were first conducted in school premises.

The University has two Faculties - the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment as well as the Faculty of Law, Education, Business and Arts.

Through education and research, CDU has helped to strengthen the social and economic development of northern Australia and the Asia-pacific region.

CDU teaches 21,000 students at four campuses and four training centres. It also delivers training in more than 170 remote locations across the Territory.

The University promotes and supports the development of educational practices that provide high-quality and diverse learning experiences for all students.
