Emeritus Professor Trang Thomas AM FAPS

Emeritus Professor Thomas is a Professor of Psychology at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Psychology in Melbourne.

Trang has been the Director of Science of the Australian Psychological Society for two terms and member of the National Health and Medical Research Council for two triennium.

She has carried out several research projects into the psychological aspects of being older, stress and coping, mental health and issues concerning women and migrants. She has produced over 100 research papers, keynote addresses, conference presentations, as well as many feature articles in the print and television media.

Not only has Trang received several awards for her research, including the Alumni Achievement Award from the University of NSW, the Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award from La Trobe, the Centenary Medal and she was made a Member of the Order of Australia Award for her services to the community in aged care and ethnic affairs, her research outcomes have resulted in significant impact on policies.


Professor Uwe Gielen

Professor Gielen is currently Executive Director of the Institute for International and Cross-Cultural Psychology, which he founded at St Francis College.

He holds a PhD in social psychology from Harvard University, completing his dissertation on the moral reasoning of radical German students, and has lectured in 32 different countries.

Professor Gielen has served as president of the International Council of Psychologists, Society for Cross-Cultural Research and American Psychological Association's international division 52.

His main areas of interest include moral development, international and cross-cultural psychology, the psychosocial adjustment of Chinese American adolescents, and Tibetan Buddhism.

He is the co-editor/co-author of 18 books, including The Kohlberg Legacy for the Helping Professions, Cross-Cultural Topics in Psychology, Towards a Global Psychology: Theory, Research, Intervention, and Pedagogy, and Principles of Multicultural Counseling and Therapy.

He has served as editor of World Psychology and the International Journal of Group Tensions.
