Time difference
Darwin is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) + 9.5 hours.
Currency
Australian national currency is decimal.
Notes are in $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5 denominations.
Coins are in 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 denominations.

Electricity
The electrical supply is 240 volts, 50 hz. Connections for appliances is a
flat three-pin plug. Most city hotels provide 110 volts for shavers.
Official language
The official language in Australia, and for the conference, is English.
Car parking
For those registrants who wish to drive in Darwin and park their car
during the day, parking is available at the University. View the Casuarina campus map here.
Bus and taxi travel
Buses travel from the city to Casuarina Shopping Centre, via Charles Darwin University on a regular basis. Route four provides a direct route from the city to Charles Darwin University.
Taxis are available but will need to be booked for travel to-and-from the University, phone 131 008.
Passport and visas
All visitors need a valid passport and visitors from many countries also require a visa for entry into Australia.
In many countries you can obtain your business (short stay) visa at the same time as you purchase your airline ticket, you will need to request a Business Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) for Australia.
Visas are also issued at Australian Embassies and Consulates around the world.

Food, seeds and wooden products
Please note Australia is an island and as such there are quarantine restrictions in place to maintain its free status with respect to many diseases and pests.
Your travel agent will probably provide you with a pamphlet but, in brief, please do not bring any food items, seeds, or wooden products into the country.
