This conference seeks to explore options, opportunities and mechanisms for moving towards the new VET environment, with the following key focus areas:

Theme 1: COAG VET reform agenda

  • What are the major challenges for the players?
  • What are the drivers for the reform agenda?
  • How can industry and the training sector work together to achieve the COAG agenda?
  • Will AQTF 2007 provide the quality assurance demanded by industry?
  • What will qualifications/training of the future look like?
  • Is leadership of the VET system in good hands?

Theme 2: VET workforce to meet the needs of industry, community and enterprises

  • What are the major challenges facing the VET sector, in particular TAFE?
  • How can the VET sector be more responsive to ongoing changes in the workplace?
  • What skills do VET staff need to work effectively with industry and the enterprises?
  • Is the VET sector responsive enough for industry?
  • What will future professional development look like?
  • How will the VET workforce respond to changes in indigenous policy?
  • What role do VET staff play in developing a sense of community?

Theme 3: Flexible and innovative approaches to delivery and assessment

  • What are the challenges facing the VET sector in meeting the needs of the Y and Z generations?
  • How is language, literacy & numeracy impacting on student progress?
  • What is flexibility?
