The Northern Territory Department of Employment, Education and Training works with Territorians to build and protect our workforce, to improve education and training outcomes for our students of all ages and to provide safe working environments.
We are committed to creating and improving pathways between school, training and employment so all Territorians have the opportunity to actively participate in the future of the Territory.
In this period of rapid development in the Northern Territory, with offshore gas soon to come online, a new railway service to Darwin and surging tourism growth, the challenge ahead for the Department of Employment, Education and Training (DEET) is to support lifelong learning for all Territorians and prepare and skill a workforce capable of keeping pace with the changing labour market.
DEET provides and promotes an environment of lifelong learning and employment and training pathways and opportunities to meet these challenges head on. It also promotes a safe workplace, learning and public environment.
The department, consisting of employment and training, education and NT WorkSafe business areas, employs about 4000 staff across the Territory.
The department's education business area is focused on providing quality education for all students, with a focus on meeting indigenous students' needs, leading to employment, training or further education.
The employment and training business area is focused on increasing access to employment and training pathways for Territorians to build and skill the workforce to meet the growing demands of the NT labour market.
NT WorkSafe is focused on protecting the workplace and promoting a safer working, learning and public environment. NT WorkSafe is the administrative and regulatory arm of the Northern Territory Work Health Authority, the statutory body established under the Work Health Act.
