Business Development Champions
Champions have a number of roles and functions in common irrespective of the particular core business area they are associated with:
- Scanning the scene
- Maintaining particular relationships internally and externally
- Having and capturing ideas
- Sharing knowledge
- Communication
- Exercising judgement
- Facilitating the development of tactics and projects together with the Head of School
- Providing input to Faculty and Executive for development of processes.
Additional specific roles for business development champions
- Serve on the Business Development Panel as required.
- Be aware of consulting, research and teaching expertise and capabilities in your School so that you can be an effective point of contact for people both within and outside the University.
- Maintain an awareness of potential business opportunities in the areas of expertise of your School.
- Maintain records of information gained in 1. and 2. and provide copies to your Faculty Business Leader, the Executive Director Business Development, the Head of School and others as required.
- Be proactive in suggesting new opportunities for business development within your School: identify business opportunities for courses (including short course/workshop delivery) and identify and support good business ideas in all areas.
- Aid the flow of information about new opportunities within your School.
- Initiate, assist with or advise on the coordination of the development of business proposals within the School or involving the School, including the generation of tender teams.
- Assess and advise on the capacity of the School to participate in business development generally in areas of expertise and for specific opportunities from time to time.
- Assist as an adviser in the development of business plans for proposed initiatives.
- Be familiar with, and provide advice on University policies and processes relevant to business development.
- Contribute to staff development within the School.
- Celebrate success and contribute to the promotion and recognition of successful business development initiatives internally and externally.
