Business Development Portfolio
The Business Development portfolio is comprised of three broad areas. These are:
BusinessLink
BusinessLink manages tender applications, contracts for research and consulting, course delivery for fee-paying students or under contract, development of off-shore programs in association with other organisations, intellectual property protection and commercialisation.
The International office
The office is responsible for the recruitment and enrolment of international students and, in association with other groups, the provision of support for international students.
External Relations and Development
External Relations and Development work closely together and are responsible for fundraising and support of the University and the Charles Darwin University Foundation, Alumni, protocol and establishment of relationships with a range of business, government and philanthropic organisations.

These three groups are responsible for service delivery in their particular areas, as well as the provision of advice to members of academic staff, university managers and other staff members engaged in business development activities. They often collaborate, as well as working with other areas of the university, for complex projects.
The key drivers of business development are:
The Executive Director, Business Development, provides leadership for business development with advice from others, in particular, the Vice-Chancellor, Council, and the Vice-Chancellor's Management Group (VCMG). In addition, the Executive Director meets regularly with Business Development staff across the university.
The Business Development Group Managers and Directors and the staff reporting to them are responsible for the quality of service delivery in their particular areas. This responsibility is exercised through a set of functional teams within the division, working closely with relevant academic groups (business managers within the Institute of Advanced Studies, executive officers, deans, heads of school and business champions), the Executive Director, other Business Development portfolio managers and staff of other functional areas. The group managers and directors are responsible for translating business development goals into local goals in their areas.
The role of School Business Development Champions is to stimulate and facilitate business activity at a local level, taking advantage of their knowledge of their school's academic and technical areas and through development of knowledge of the existing and potential client base.
