Do I need Career Counselling?
Before you make an appointment to see the Senior Student Advisor, it is important to think about what you actually need. The Senior Student Advisor is available to:
- Help clarify your ideas.
- Provide support in decision making.
- Offer a new perspective on your issues.
- Assist in transitioning from student to employment and vice versa.
It is important that you find out as much as possible before you make an appointment as you may find that you answer your own questions, try some of the following:
- View all CDU courses and programs and read through the information provided.
- For subject selection, points for credit within your course structure, pre-requisites, and transfer procedures contact your relevant Faculty.
- To prepare for employment refer to resources available to you (Finding a Job, Resumes, How to Respond to Selection Criteria and Interview Preparation).
- Review student/graduate employment opportunities that are posted on the CDU website.
- Use career related websites and read newspapers job sections to see what employment opportunities are available to you.
- Contact industry associations to investigate what pre-requisites they may have for professional membership.
- Consider voluntary work in the field you're considering to assess its suitability for you.
- Contact the CDU Alumni office to take advantage of networking opportunities.
