Career counselling and employment services
For prospective students, current students and graduates, student advisors from the Career and Employment unit are available to assist with career counselling and employment services. Telephone counselling is available for students living outside the Northern Territory.

Complaint resolution
Support and information are available through Support and Equity Services to resolve grievances and complaints either with other students, university staff, or university administrative or academic complaints and appeals. To assist students in the resolution of complaints and appeals, the university has developed a student administrative complaints and review process, a student academic complaint and appeals process, and student/staff grievance process for complaints about discrimination and harassment.

Counselling
Professional, confidential and free counselling services are offered to students through Support and Equity Services. The student facilitator (counselling) has expertise in working with people who are dealing with a wide range of personal, study and cross-cultural issues. Information about local community services is also available through the counselling service.

Disability support
Charles Darwin University (CDU) is committed to providing an accessible, supportive, safe and inclusive learning environment for students who have a disability. If you have a disability, illness or injury that may impact on your studies, contact the Student Facilitator, Disabilities, to discuss the range of adjustments that could be put in place to address the effects of a disability on your ability to study.
As a prospective student, you are encouraged to contact the university as soon as possible so the impact of your disability or medical condition on your studies can be identified and services organised if they are required. All enquiries are confidential.

Equity information, assistance and support
It is the objective of CDU to ensure the absence of all forms of discrimination and harassment based on gender, marital status, race and age, disability or sexual preference in relation to all facets of student participation at the university. Support and Equity Services assists students who believe discrimination may be occurring, by discussing and clarifying the situation and exploring with students their rights, responsibilities and options to resolve the matter.

Indigenous academic support
The Indigenous Academic Support team provides high-level support and assistance to Indigenous students studying at CDU through:
- Provision of specialist orientation programs for new Indigenous students
- Assistance with enrolment applications and course information
- Provision of academic support and referrals for tutoring from the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme, through which individual or group tutorial assistance can be arranged
- Access to a well-appointed Indigenous student common room, computer lab, tutorial room and large undercover seating area with fans and lights at Casuarina campus. Excellent student facilities are also available at Palmerston, Katherine and Alice Springs campuses
- Assistance with top-up printing costs of VET and higher education students
- Referral to support agencies (e.g. counsellors) and information and assistance for accessing other services on campus (e.g. Support and Equity Services, which also includes access to disability services)
- Assistance with finding suitable accommodation through North Flinders International House, Mission Australia or Aboriginal hostels
- Provision of information about scholarships and other opportunities that are available for students from time to time, as well as assistance with preparing and submitting scholarship applications
- Provision of advocacy support (e.g. helping to deal with study problems, scholarship payments, access to Centrelink/Abstudy, etc.)
- Regular visits to schools and community organisations to talk about study options and educational and career pathways available at CDU
- Preparation and broad email distribution of monthly Indigenous student newsletter.

International student support
The International Student Facilitator is located in Support and Equity Services, Blue 1, room 21. The facilitator provides international students with information and support on arrival at CDU, assists in resolving concerns encountered during their study time, and helps to prepare them for their return home.

Language, literacy and numeracy support for students
If you have difficulty with language, literacy and numeracy, support is available by speaking to your lecturer or by contacting one of the areas below:

Student accommodation and loans

Study skills assistance – Academic language and learning facilitator
The development of skills in areas such as time management, essay writing, understanding academic expectations and examination preparation is available through Support and Equity Services. The student facilitator (study skills) provides individual information sessions and group workshops on study-related topics throughout the year.
