Community and Access

Community and Access Champions

Champions have a number of roles and functions in common, irrespective of the particular core business area they are associated with, which include:

  • Scanning the scene
  • Maintaining particular relationships internally and externally
  • Having and capturing ideas
  • Sharing knowledge
  • Communication
  • Exercising judgement
  • Facilitating the development of tactics and projects together with the head of school
  • Providing input to faculty and executive for development of processes.

Additional specific roles for Community and Access champions

The Community and Access champions have the responsibility to ensure that the strategic issues associated with the portfolio are known throughout the school and that the school has a coordinated response to these issues.

  • To serve as a member of the Community and Access panel
  • To share knowledge and best practice in how to successfully meet the University’s vision with other schools, units, centres and campuses
  • To ensure that school-based staff are not only aware of but also know how to access various equity and diversity programs such as entry schemes, Indigenous support schemes or equity support
  • To identify emerging incentives to expand access to the University to individuals and groups of potential students
  • Community and Access champions will work with Corporate Communications to develop appropriate marketing and communications strategies to further develop opportunities for enrolments, expanded offerings and meeting equity and diversity targets
  • To contribute to the development of the VET and higher education profiles in order to meet the emerging educational and training needs of the Northern Territory
  • To serve as a first point of contact for other members of the Community and Access portfolio into schools
  • To serve as a contact for school-based staff who wish to gain further information about Community and Access activities, processes and operations
  • To promulgate new opportunities to both the school and the broader University community to improve internal and external service levels.
