Community Engagement is Relevant to Research
Engaged research involves the community as genuine partners in research projects that address the complex problems of importance to the region. The action research approach is an example of community engagement. It recognises the importance of the knowledge that the partner brings to the research.
Engaged research partnerships are mutually beneficial as they strengthen Charles Darwin University’s reputation and can lead to improved social, cultural, economic, environmental or public health outcomes for the community.
Engaged research underpins knowledge transfer and exchange and may also lead to the commercialisation of intellectual property, the establishment of spin-off companies and joint venture activity between universities and partners.
The University presents public lectures, seminars and symposia that engage CDU lecturers, visiting lecturers and the community in sharing cutting edge ideas and knowledge about issues of importance to the region.
CDU has many collaborative partnerships related to its research strengths of:
- Natural and Cultural Resource Management
- Human Health and Well-being
- Teaching, Learning and Living
- Community, Development and Identity
