Pandanus Performers

The Vocal Development Program is for young singers between the ages of six and 18 who are interested in learning more about music and their voices.

The CYM recognises the importance of training young singers to use correct vocal technique as well as giving them plenty of opportunity to sing at various functions and events, and participate in staged productions

  • Foster a love of music through active participation
  • Encourage and train young singers to use their voices safely
  • Develop aural skills, reliable sight-singing skills and the understanding of musical concepts
  • Broaden experience through a range of performance opportunities and a varied and stimulating repertoire
  • Encourage and to prepare young singers for future music study or involvement.

Choirs available

  • Junior Mixed Choir  - 'Little Voices' (school grades 1-3) - Tutor: Alison Tapper
  • Girls Choir (school grades 4-7) - Tutors: Jennifer Rivett and Lucy Neville
  • Boys Choir (unchanged treble voices) - Tutor:
  • Mixed Youth Choir (high school age) - Tutor: Jennifer Rivett and Lucy Neville.

Vocal development chiorsPerformance is an important part of this program and the choir has sung at many functions and events in the general community including:

  • The launch of the Young Achievers Award
  • Recording for Barrundi Pictures television commercial
  • Performance with the DSO at a Charity concert at the Darwin Entertainment Centre
  • Recording 'Lullaby' from the 'Wetlands Suite' with the DSO
  • Performance at the CYM Fundraising dinner
  • Carol singing at MGM Grand Casino
  • Performing with the massed choirs at the Commemoration for the Bombing of Darwin Ceremony
  • Numerous Eisteddfods
  • Opening of National AXA Conference
  • Performances with visiting international and interstate choral groups.
