Junior Music Program

The Junior Music Program is a special part of the CYM’s ensemble program held on Saturday mornings. It caters to children aged between three and six years of age.

There are three levels within the Junior Music Program:

The three levels of the Junior Music Program are sequenced to provide age-appropriate learning experiences that build upon prior knowledge. Children of any age are welcome and will be placed in an age-appropriate class. All instruments and props will be provided for students.

Children enrolled in the JMP have the opportunity to perform in the Saturday morning ensemble concerts which are held twice a year.

JMP3 – Budding Violins

Children learn the skills needed to play the violin in a supportive, encouraging group-learning environment. Building on the skills and experiences of the previous levels, the Level Three program includes creating, listening, and moving to music, as well as developing musical literacy skills in a fun and holistic way. This class introduces children to basic musical concepts, rhythms, violin posture, technique and care of the instrument and bow.

Age Range

5 – 7

Standard

Beginners
Parental involvement is encouraged.

Goals

The aim is to provide a group music-making experience while children develop the skills they will need to play their instruments in an ensemble.

The teaching strategies in this class are similar to that of the Suzuki Method, which focuses on the philosophy that every child can learn, that they have the ability to develop early and that children learn from one another.
