Mataranka Primary School provides Belinda with a great teaching experience
School of Education student Belinda Hodges is completing her final practicum in the Bachelor of Teaching and Learning degree at Mataranka Primary School and loving the experience!
From Victoria, Belinda has been studying externally and selected schools within her home state to undertake practicums as part of her degree. However for her final 10 week practicum she decided to try a remote placement and found herself at Mataranka Primary School in Katherine, NT.
The placement at the school is one of the highlights of Belinda's course and Charles Darwin University experience.
“It has been fantastic,” she said. “There have been so many opportunities to learn new things and to get to know and work with Indigenous students.”
The school is dynamic and supportive with innovative teaching and learning programs, especially in art, music and learning technologies so Belinda is getting a good all round experience.
Her mentor-teacher uses digital technologies in especially creative ways with her students. All students have impressive e-portfolios incorporating text, still and video images and this is a bonus experience for Belinda.
Belinda chose to study her degree externally through CDU because of its flexible delivery. The program also recognised and valued her extensive teaching and tutoring experience.
Belinda and her family are relocating to the Northern Territory once Belinda finishes her studies.
