Are you interested in becoming an early childhood teacher?

You can upgrade your Diploma of Children’s Services or Bachelor of Children’s Services, or your current Early Childhood degree. You may wish to move from primary or secondary to early childhood teaching.

We are offering flexible study options to help you include study in your life. You can gain an early childhood degree, leading to NT teacher registration, from a variety of entry points.

Courses available:

  • Bachelor of Teaching and Learning Early Childhood
    This course prepares students to be teachers in early childhood settings, working with children aged 3 to 8. This course meets both national and local needs for early childhood teachers of exemplary practice committed to enhancing educational outcomes for all children. It has particular emphasis on improving the teaching-learning relationship in the centre or classroom, raising awareness of issues surrounding Indigenous education and developing an informed, evidence based approach to learning and teaching in early childhood
  • Bachelor of Children's Services
    This one-year course offers continuing professional development to early childhood educators who have a VET Diploma and Advanced Diploma qualifications (or equivalent) and subsequent experience of a minimum of one year as a Director or two years in charge of a group. This is a non-teaching Bachelor degree that furthers knowledge and skills for leadership or management positions within and away from face-to-face care.
  • Bachelor of Early Childhood Learning
    This two-year course offers continuing professional development for people with a 3 year nonteaching bachelor degree (such as the Bachelor of Children’s Services and other non-education Bachelor degrees) who want to teach in early childhood for children aged 3 to 8 years. It is designed to prepare for new and changing educational roles as early childhood educators.
  • Bachelor of Teaching and Learning Inservice (Early Childhood)
    This inservice course offers continuing professional development to early childhood educators with a formal three year early childhood higher education qualification (or equivalent) and who are seeking to upgrade to a specialist four year early childhood teaching qualification that is eligible for teacher registration in the NT.

Courses are offered externally and options range from one year to four years full-time study or part-time equivalent, depending on your qualification at entry
