Teachers celebrate a special year

The Celebration of Teaching Awards night was held on November 4, 2009, at Darwin Entertainment Centre.

Special guests included Director of Teacher Registration, Dr Julie Wells; DET general managers, Carol Penglase, Susan Barton-Johnson and Maree Garrigan; and representatives from Catholic Education, Brenda Keenan and Greg O’Mullane.

In her welcome speech, School of Education's Director of Professional Experience Dr Lorraine Connell said the evening celebrated the profession of teaching by welcoming new teachers and acknowledging the tremendous support the profession offers in mentoring CDU students.

"This year is a special one in that we are celebrating with the last of the Bachelor of Education students, the first of the Bachelor of teaching and Learning students and of course the Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning students," Dr Connell said.

"As a profession we are very aware of the importance of positive reinforcement and tonight is one way of saying thank you to NT schools for their support, as well as celebrating teaching," she said.
