This web site explains the principles of site-based teacher education, looks at what is involved in becoming a site-based teacher educator and provides details of the field experience and practicum programs within the Bachelor of Teaching (Primary and Early Childhood), the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary), and the Bachelor of Education.

External students are required to organise their own pracicum times in conjunction with the Director of Professional Experience, Dr Lorraine Connell (phone: 08 8946 6149). A printable version of the requirements for each practicum unit that a student may be undertaking is available for download from the Site-based Teacher Education Manual (.pdf). This is invaluable information for students and supervising teachers. Students can print the entire document or simply print off the relevant information required. The units/practicum

Charles Darwin University's School of Education program incorporates a site-based approach to teacher education. A SBTE approach seeks to involve practicing teachers and carers more fully in the preparation and education of prospective teachers. In keeping with the course units/practicums are offered internally, face to face classes and practicums completed in Darwin urban and rural schools as well as externally with students completing course work packages and organising their practicums in NT schools with assistance from the practicum coordinator and/or assistant.
