Bachelor of Teaching and Learning ( pre-service) (BTLP)

This course prepares students to be teachers in early childhood, primary, middle schooling or Vocational Education and Training sectors (VET in Schools). It is also suitable for preparing students to work at senior levels within the non-school early childhood education and care sector. This course meets both national and local needs for teachers of exemplary practice committed to enhancing educational outcomes for all children and young adults. It emphasises improving the teaching-learning relationship in the classroom, raising awareness of issues surrounding Indigenous education and developing an informed, evidence-based approach to learning and teaching in early childhood, primary, middle school and VET settings. This course can be completed full time over 4 years or 3 years if units are taken over the summer semester.

Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Inservice) (BTLIN)


This inservice course offers continuing professional development to teachers with a formal three-year (or two year) initial teaching qualification or to newly qualified teachers with a Graduate Diploma in Education (or equivalent) who are seeking to develop more specialised professional knowledge. The program is designed to extend and develop professional knowledge and skills; prepare for new and changing educational roles; enhance interpersonal and professional communication skills; develop reflective practitioner skills; explore in greater depth the relationship between individual and organisational learning; assist in achieving a balance between the personal and organisational requirements of teaching; ensure continuing awareness of the environmental and cultural influences on teaching and learning, and better understand the needs of learners and communities with diverse linguistic and cultural orientations, including Indigenous learners. The standard completion time for this course is 1 year full time or 2 years part time.

Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning (GDTL)


The curriculum content and pedagogy of this course is contextualised to prepare students to teach in early childhood, primary, middle or secondary schools. The course enables students to develop the skills and knowledge to teach in contemporary school settings. It is a fast-paced, intensive course with considerable opportunity for practical, classroom experience. Students are encouraged to recognise environmental, social and cultural influences on teaching and learning to achieve just, meaningful, purposeful and equitable outcomes for all learners. Career opportunities for graduates include teaching, education and research. The early childhood and primary streams comprise a combination of core course work and its attendant 80-day practicum enabling students to teach in the core curriculum areas. The standard completion time for this course is 1 year full time or 2 years part time.

As part of these courses students are required to complete professional experience periods in schools. These are made up of single day visits and block teaching components and need to be completed sequentially.
