Role of the Faculty Human Ethics Committee
For the Faculty to achieve its educational purpose, the learning and teaching of research methods must include ethical instruction to enable students to develop an appreciation of ethical principles as they apply to research.
The Faculty Human Ethics Committee (FHEC) will have the responsibility for the initial review of ethical issues raised by coursework research projects, for increasing staff and student awareness of ethical issues common to the disciplines within the Faculty and the requirements of the NHMRC Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans.
The FHEC will also be responsible for any review of the ethical arrangements should the research methodology change. It is also important that the FHEC encourages on-going consideration of relevant professional practice codes and ethical dilemmas if the Faculty is to make a significant contribution to the ethics debate.
