- Exercise and sport science practicum
Research Interests
Anaerobic metabolism and sprint performance as well as environmental physiology, are the general areas of research interest. Two specific areas are high-intensity intermittent exercise performance in tropical conditions and risk assessment for heat stress in various occupations working in tropical conditions. These interests are pursued in Paul's capacity as the coordinator of the National Heat Training and Acclimatisation Centre that operates as a partnership between Charles Darwin University and the Northern Territory Institute of Sport.
Relevant Professional Affiliations
- Sports Medicine Australia
- Professional Association of Diving Instructors
- International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry
- Editorial Board for the international journal: Journal of Sports Science and Medicine
Qualifications and Experience
James Paul Finn was awarded a PhD in Exercise Physiology from Flinders University in 1998. He completed M Ed studies from Flinders University in 1992 and a Grad Dip, B Ed, and Dip T from the University of South Australia in 1988, 1980, and 1979, respectively. He is qualified as a level 3 (instructor) in Kinanthropometry, and as a Diver Medical Technician.
Paul has worked with the National Heat Training and Acclimatisation Centre and at Charles Darwin University since late 1999. He lectured in recreation, sport and fitness at Regency Institute in South Australia before moving to the Northern Territory.
