School of Health Sciences

The School of Health Sciences encompasses a holistic approach to research that includes health, welfare, social work and psychology. Research within the school is designed not only to understand the causes of reduced or improved health outcomes but equally health psychology and the broader social environment, structures and polices that impact on health within communities.

The nature of a regional and remote environment characterised by distance and isolation is reflected in the school’s research foci.

These include risky, hazardous and health promoting behaviours in substance abuse and gambling; chronic ear diseases and subsequent sequelae; the connection between human and landscape health (such as housing in remote communities) and health and nursing education, especially where these are challenged by service delivery for small, isolated and Indigenous communities.
