UTROP
Application Process
Supervisors
Supervisors will be responsible for costs of implementing the project (other than the student stipend). Ideally the project should be part of an existing project, but may be used to trial something new.
Please email inquiries or completed UTROP application form to the R&PGS Office (pgresearch@cdu.edu.au). Please include ‘UTROP’ in the subject line of your email.
Projects will be posted on the R&PGS website accessible through the Faculty of EH&S homepage. Students are to choose suitable projects and discuss with their supervisor.

After having organised a project with a potential supervisor, please send a completed UTROP application form, curriculum vitae, and a letter from at least one referee and a copy of your academic transcript to:

Applicants will be assessed on their academic record, project selection criteria, referee’s report and CV (see following). UTROP places will be awarded on merit. Applicants are advised to go through the checklist and ensure all paper work is attached.
Applications may be submitted throughout the year. Consideration of applications will be made in June and November of each year.
Applicants who have successfully completed a UTROP project may negotiate extensions of projects where appropriate, or reapply for a different project.
Selection criteria
Selection of successful students will be based on the items listed below. Selection will be made on merit, and consideration will be weighted as indicated below.
- Academic record (50%)
- Project selection criteria (30%)
- Referee’s report, from a person who knows the applicant personally, academically or professionally (10%)
- CV (10%)
Selection process
Upon receipt, your application will be acknowledged and the UTROP coordinator will convene a meeting of UTROP Committee to rank and then select successful applicants. The numbers awarded each year depends on the faculty and sponsor allocations. Applicants may be called for interviews at the discretion of the committee. All applicants will be notified of whether or not they have been successful.
