Starting UTROP

Having been accepted into UTROP, you and your UTROP supervisor will organise the times when you will work. This may be library, archive or computer-based research, laboratory-based research, fieldwork, or a combination of each. If your host organisation is CDU, a staff member will contact you to organise your participation in relevant safety courses. Should your UTROP placement be elsewhere your supervisor will organise this for you.

Expectations of all parties

UTROP participants must be honourable in their intentions to participate in UTROP. This means that UTROP students should actively pursue the opportunity to learn research skills enthusiastically and not simply participate in the program for the monetary benefit. UTROP supervisors are expected to take an active interest in the student's apprenticeship as a research assistant.

UTROP reporting requirements

The aim of UTROP is to give students realistic experience in research. A UTROP participant will be treated as a professional member of the research team from the beginning of participation in the program.

UTROP students are required to write a report on their project.

Discontinuation

UTROP students must notify the UTROP coordinator and their supervisor(s) of their intention to discontinue UTROP and come to an agreement about the date when their UTROP will cease. The UTROP coordinator, in consultation with the UTROP participant and their supervisor(s), may request that a UTROP student discontinue in the program if the student has not met the UTROP expectations, criteria and guidelines.
