The Bachelor of Biomedical Science provides students with the knowledge and skills that are the foundation of laboratory, clinical and public health practices, central to medicine and health care. Graduates seek to benefit human health by managing government health programs, involvement in rehabilitation programs or assisting with medical research.
Students have the opportunity to specialise in one of three areas; medicinal chemistry, exercise physiology or public health.
The medicinal chemistry stream utilises expertise from our pharmacy program, the exercise physiology stream offers work placements as part of its study program and the public health stream focuses on remote area health. Many graduates use the biomedical science degree towards admission into graduate entry programs, such as medicine, physiotherapy and other allied health areas that lead to clinical professions.
Medicinal chemistry graduates may work in laboratories as hospital scientists; exercise physiology graduates may work in clinical testing or rehabilitation and public health graduates can work as policy advisors. Many graduates use their Bachelor of Biomedical Science towards admission into further studies, such as graduate entry medicine or allied health programs.
