Students receive $1m in scholarships

Charles Darwin University has presented scholarships valued at almost $1 million to 72 students during its Semester 1 donor scholarship ceremonies.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simon Maddocks congratulated all participants and thanked donors for their continued support and commitment to both the students and CDU.

“I would like to congratulate the students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and commitment to their studies,” Professor Maddocks said. “Your scholarships are well deserved.”

Scholarships valued at up to $75,000 were awarded across a range of fields, such as health, business, education, environment, IT, sport, Indigenous, engineering, arts and hospitality to provide financial support to students through their studies and provide valuable industry workplace experience to supplement their education.

Special mention went to nine students who received two scholarships each. They were:

* Timothy Miles – Bachelor of Engineering Science/Master of Engineering
* Joel Benesha – Bachelor of Engineering (Hons)
* Leanne Lang – Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching)
* Jessica Anglesey – Certificate IV in Community Services
* Mark Munnich – Bachelor of Accounting/Bachelor of Laws
* Benjamin Collinson – Bachelor of Laws
* Linda - Zagorskis – Certificate IV in Community Services
* Shanyao Shi - Bachelor of Engineering (Hons)
* Tiffanie Pearse – Diploma of Conservation and Land Management.

Several new scholarships were also awarded this year, including the Newmont Tanami Scholarships, Matarazzo LC Scholarship and the Westpac Young Technologist Scholarship.

Semester 2 scholarship applications are now open and will close at 3pm Friday, 5 August 2016.
