Hospitality whiz wins WorldSkills award
By Katie Weiss
A high school student has won gold at the national WorldSkills Australia competition after completing a hospitality course at Charles Darwin University.
Georgia English won the “Food and Beverage – VETiS” category after winning the Northern Territory round last year, while studying as a VET for Secondary Schools student at CDU.
Hospitality lecturer Michelle Rojo said Georgia, who is an Essington School student, was passionate about hospitality and determined to provide high standards of service.
Ms Rojo coached Georgia in the lead-up to the three-day competition in Melbourne, in areas including coffee and non-alcoholic beverage preparation and service.
“Georgia has a fabulous and engaging personality, which is essential for hospitality,” she said.
During the competition, Georgia completed activities including preparing, serving and packing away a high tea, an informal tapas lunch, and a formal dinner.
