Assessment Rules
Assessment rules provide for all student assessment to be conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the presentation of the work of another without acknowledgement. Collusion is another person assisting in the production of an assessment submission without the express requirement, or consent or knowledge of the assessor. Staff and students may use information and ideas expressed by others, but this use must be identified by appropriate referencing.
Plagiarism is taken very seriously by the University and the student may be subject to disciplinary action by the University.
The
University policy on academic and scientific misconduct is the overarching CDU policy on plagiarism.
The
Student Breach of Academic Integrity Procedure outlines what happens when a case of plagiarism is discovered.
Referencing Requirements
Unless otherwise specified, Harvard Referencing is required for assessment items. The CDU Library provides an overview of what is involved in Harvard Referencing.
Extensions and late submission for assignments
All assignments should be submitted on the day or before they are due.
- Extensions will only be given in exceptional circumstances.
- Extensions should be requested in writing from your lecturer one week prior to the due date.
- Once an assignment has been returned to the class, any late assignments will not be marked.
- Unless otherwise specified in the unit outline, an assessment item will attract a penalty of 10% of the total mark for every calendar day or part calendar day that the item is late.
Scaling
Marks are not normally scaled but the right to do so is reserved.
General Grading Scheme
The University higher education grading system for 100-300 level units will be used for conversion of marks into grades (refer to "Grading of Units with Residential Activity for External Students" below for special requirements for external students enrolled in units with residential activity on-campus):

The University higher education grading system for 400-500 level units will be used for conversion of marks into grades (refer to "Grading of Units with Residential Activity for External Students" below for special requirements for external students enrolled in units with residential on campus activity):
| Mark | Grade | Mark | Grade |

Grading of Units with Residential Activity for External Students
A number of units delivered by the School have mandatory on-campus residential activity (refer to http://www.cdu.edu.au/engit/residentials.html). Students enrolled in external mode in these units must attend the on-campus residential activity for the full duration of the residential. Non-attendance will result in an 'F' (Fail) grade, regardless of the mark scored for the unit. The general grading scheme outlined above applies for conversion of marks into grades for students who have attended the mandatory residential activity of the unit.
