High school workshops

The School of Engineering and Information Technology delivers a number of workshops designed to support secondary school students studying ICT or Physics in Senior Secondary programs. All workshops are offered free of charge.

Understanding computersComputer hardware

SACE/NTCET Stage 1 Information Technology
Time: one day workshop
Location: CDU Casuarina Campus, Purple 12

The purpose of this workshop is to assist students to gain an understanding of the hardware and software aspects of computer systems. Students will revise the parts of a computer using online technologies where appropriate. In pairs they will then deconstruct and construct a desktop CPU. They will also learn about the installation of Windows 7 on external hard disk and the advanced features of Windows 7. Workshops will be facilitated by academic staff.

Create your own Mobile App

SACE/NTCET Stage 1 Information Technology
Time: one day workshop
Location: CDU Casuarina Campus, Purple 12

Students build their own applications on Android phones. No prior programming knowledge is needed. Workshops will be facilitated by academic staff.

Pull apart enginesHonda GX160T1

SACE/NTCET Stage 1 Physics
Time: one day workshop
Location: CDU Casuarina Campus, Purple 12

What's inside a simple small engine and how does it work? During this lab, you will disassemble a working engine to investigate many aspects of the engine design. Several measurements are required at particular stages of the disassembly.

Electromagnetism, motors and powerElectric motor

SACE/NTCET Stage 1 Physics
Time: one day workshop
Location: CDU Casuarina Campus, Purple 12

Students will build and run an electric motor, covering theoretical material such as the right hand grip and palm rules, Ohm’s law, power, efficiency and energy. Students modify the motor and are given access to lab materials to apply the theory and improve performance however they can Workshops will be facilitated by academic staff and students from the Engineering discipline.
