The Disability Service is the first point of contact for students with disabilities.

If you have a physical or sensory disability, learning disability, medical illness or a psychological condition that may impact on your ability to access and participate in study and other services of Charles Darwin University, then you are advised to contact a Disability Liaison Officer within the Disability Service.

The disability can be either permanent or temporary.

The Disability Liaison Officers assist with the following services:

  • General assistance and advice with identifying the implications of a disability for study

  • Registration with the Disability Service and the development of a Learning Access Plan

  • Liaison between student and staff members regarding the Access Plan

  • Advice regarding implementation of recommended adjustments, including adjustments for Examinations;

  • Access to assistive software and specialised equipment and resources;

  • Referral to and liaison with other services and agencies.

Disclosing a disability can be difficult. Initially, it is advisable to discuss disclosure with the Disability Liaison Officer. This information will remain confidential until you determine who needs to know about your disability. Generally, disclosure enables the university to implement appropriate adjustments to enable you to access and participate in your studies.
