Professor Peter Kell

Professor Peter Kell is the Pro Vice-Chancellor Law, Education, Business and Arts. Previously Professor Kell was the Head of the School of Education at Charles Darwin University from 2011 - 2016.

Professor Kell came to Charles Darwin University from the Centre for Lifelong Learning Research and Development (CLLRD) at the Hong Kong Institute of Education.  

Professor Kell’s current research interests include global student mobility, the internationalization of education and training in the Asia Pacific and literacy and language in East Asia.

Professor Peter Kell and Dr Marilyn Kell are authors of Literacy and Language in East Asia: Shifting meanings, values and approaches with Springer.  

Peter Kell has a number of publications and recently authored several books with Dr Gillian Vogl. These are International students in the Asia Pacific: Mobility, risks and global optimism published by Springer in 2012, Global student mobility in the Asia Pacific: Mobility, Migration, Security and Wellbeing of international students, with Cambridge Scholars Press in 2009 and Higher Education in the Asia Pacific: Challenges for the future again with Cambridge Scholars Press in 2007.

Peter Kell has conducted a range of international projects including the Steps to the Future: A cooperative workshop on the education training in East Timor in 2012 with Therese Kersten, Lorraine Sushames and Ruth Wallace.

Professor Kell has strong links with Asia having worked at the Hong Kong Institute of Education 2009 - 2011 and as a visiting professor at the Universiti of Sains Malaysia. He has extensive experience in transnational programs some of which have involved the International Associations of Universities, the World Bank, the Asia Pacific Future Research Network and the Centre for Excellence

Peter Kell was the President of the Australian Vocational Education and Training Association (AVETRA) from 2004 - 2008 and was the editor of the International Journal of Training Research from 2009 - 2012. He is currently editor of the International Journal of Management Education.

Professor Kell is a member of the Northern Territory Teacher registration Board and the Northern Territory Board of Studies. He was the NT Board member of the Australian Council of Deans from 2011 to 2015.

In 2013 Professor Kell was elected as Deputy Chair of the Academic Board of Charles Darwin University.

Professor Peter Kell was awarded a Northern Territory Senior Scholar Fulbright Fellowship in 2014 and undertook the award at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in 2015.

In 2016 Dr Kell was awarded the Outstanding Service to Education by the Australian Council of Deans of Education.
