Major Projects is pleased to announce that the construction of buildings for the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Education is about to commence. The buildings will be part of the Blue Precinct at the Casuarina Campus. The facility will be a key element in developing the collaboration between Charles Darwin University and Batchelor Institute of Tertiary Education and will create a state of the art learning environment for students and staff.
In the interests of safety, a barrier fence will be placed around the construction site. This fence will be in place for the best part of a year. Access to the site will be restricted.
Due to the nature of site and the scale of the project, Car Park Blue A will be closed for general parking. Arrangements are being made to provide alternative parking spaces around the campus. Car park Orange B will be designated as the new After Hours Secure Car Park. Lighting is currently being upgraded and security cameras will be installed. This car park will be for ticket and permit parking. University Drive East will also be closed to traffic for extended periods of time. This will allow constructors to install services within the road reserve. There will also be a lot of heavy vehicle movements within this area.
A number of trees that are within the footprint of the new buildings will have to be loped or removed. Some of these trees will be chipped and used as mulch around the campus. Others will be transplanted into garden beds around the campus. In conjunction with Landscape Architects, Grounds Staff, the Horticulture department and key stakeholders, a comprehensive landscaping plan has been developed to rehabilitate the area and to create a tropical environment. Over $1m will spent on landscaping the area and adjacent buildings.
We appreciate your patience and tolerance during this period and apologise for any inconvenience that may arise during the project. We believe we will deliver a fantastic facility for the University that will be create a spectacular entrance to the campus.
If you have any queries in regard to this project, please do not hesitate to contact Mal Logan on ext.6217 or by email at mal.logan@cdu.edu.au
