Expanding our capacity through partnerships

Rationale

Excellence in the creation and sustenance of partnerships to enhance capacity and reach, and where appropriate reduce costs is essential for achieving the Charles Darwin University (CDU) vision. Enhancing our role in social, economic and cultural development leads to a natural focus on enhanced engagement, including formal alliances with other educational institutions, industry and business, professional associations, government funded research agencies, not-for-profit organisations and communities.

The University will encourage and embrace many forms of partnership, networking and collaboration internally and externally. A wide range of initiatives that may further expand our reach through partnerships include:

  • Partnerships with industry and business both local, regional, national and international, including the outsourcing of some functions
  • Regional partnerships
  • Partnerships in community service
  • Partnerships with professional associations
  • Partnerships with other tertiary institutions (domestic and international).

A major partnership initiative has been to enter into a partnership agreement with the Northern Territory Government. The CDU/NTG Partnership Agreement provides for the economic and social development of the Northern Territory to be supported by a robust and resilient University working in partnership with government agencies and the wider community to contribute to education, research, policy development and program delivery.

Key Elements

Over the next 10 years, CDU will achieve the following:

  • Establishment of value adding partnerships across all benchmark areas (2010)
  • Meaningful stakeholder engagement as a fundamental principle of university core business activities (2010)
  • Development of economies of scale through partnerships to enable work to be undertaken that would otherwise have not been possible in our region, which is of direct benefit to our region (2013).
