Key Forum Report Garma 2007

The Key Forum Report, compiled by Christine Fletcher, Senior Research Fellow, Charles Darwin University, summarises the main points of debate which emerged from the Garma 2007 Key Forum, explores the policy issues which arose and articulates recommendations that can be, and are being, used to stimulate and inform actions.

This report provides an account of the issues discussed at the 2007 Garma Key Forum on Indigenous Health: real solutions for a chronic problem. The Forum addressed three thematic issues: Traditional Healing; Maternal and Child Health; and Social and Emotional Health and Wellbeing.

Presentations on these themes included background information and analyses on health conditions, practices, and diversity within the Indigenous health environment in Australia. The report includes recommendations and key issues raised at the Forum. Characteristic of forums in previous years, discussions were informed by the rich traditional Aboriginal knowledge of culture, country and community brought to Garma by the Indigenous people themselves.
