Governance at Charles Darwin University
The Charles Darwin University is governed by a 15 member Council. Council is led by the Chancellor and Deputy Chancellor, elected by the Council. The Charles Darwin University Act grants Council wide powers to appoint staff, manage and control University affairs and property, and manage and control finances to promote the University’s interests.
Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor is the University’s Chief Executive and responsible to the Council for the overall direction of strategic planning, finance and external affairs.
Executive
The Vice-Chancellor is supported by an Executive responsible for achieving outcomes in the University core business areas. The Executive comprises:
- Deputy Vice-Chancellor
- Executive Director, Corporate Services
- Executive Director, Finance and Asset Service
- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic
- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Engineering, Health Science and the Environment
- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous Leadership
- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Law, Education, Business and Arts
- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Strategy and Planning
- Pro Vice-Chancellor, Vocational Education and Training
Each of the above areas provides advice on policy and administrative matters relating to his or her area of responsibility.

Academic Board
The Academic Board is the University’s senior academic advisory body. Its members include senior University officers, Pro Vice-Chancellors, elected academic members and elected student members. The Board provides advice to the Council or Vice-Chancellor on matters relating to learning, teaching, assessment, research and research training together with the assurance and enhancement of academic quality and standards of all University programs and awards.
