Dr Deborah West

Dr Deborah WestSenior lecturer, health sciences, Faculty of Education, Health and Science

Dr Deborah West is senior lecturer and coordinator in welfare studies and social work. She has a BA (Honours) from the University of Toronto, a MSW and PhD from Flinders University. After completing her social work training, Deborah worked as a social work practitioner in both the government and non-government sectors and as a policy officer in the Australian Government. As an academic Deborah has worked at Flinders University in the School of Social Administration and Social Work and at the Australian National University in the sociology department.

Deborah has worked on numerous research projects relating to the interface of information and communication technologies (ICT) with individuals and communities. She is particularly interested in role of ICT in meeting the psycho-social needs of individuals and communities. Two current research projects include work on client participation in the governance of human service organisations and psycho-social factors that impact on disaster management and community recovery. She has published extensively in the field of information and communication technology.

Deborah has strong links in the human service industry which provide many opportunities for collaborative work and teaching. She serves on a range of boards and committees at both the national and Territory level.
