Ms Simone Liddy, an Indigenous Darwin girl, completed her primary schooling at Nakara Primary and secondary education at Dripstone High School. She is currently completing her fourth and final year of a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Charles Darwin University.

Ms Liddy was offered a cadetship during her tertiary study by the Department of Health and Community Services which enables her to work at the Royal Darwin Hospital for 12 weeks each year gaining invaluable experience in her field of study.

She loves Darwin very much and plans to stay here after she has completed her degree, and work as a pharmacist to improve the health of local Territorians, especially Indigenous people.

Ms Liddy has played hockey since she was 10 years old and has represented the Northern Territory in the women’s NT Pearls Hockey Team at the Australian Hockey League, and also captained the Northern Territory under-21 women’s hockey teams in 2006 and 2007, winning the Best and Fairest Award for the NT U21’s in 2006. She has been fortunate enough to combine her love of hockey with her university commitments.

She is a member of the recently formed Northern Territory Indigenous Education Council (NTIEC). The role of the council is to provide Northern Territory and Australian Government Ministers advice and recommendations regarding the strategic direction and implementation of education for Indigenous Territorians.

She was very honoured to receive the NAIDOC Youth of the Year for 2007, and more recently the Northern Territory’s Young Australian of the Year for 2008.
