Research topic: Birth outcomes in China

This project was funded by an ARC grant and investigated where and how it is possible to decrease the maternal death rate in China. The process involved an audit of the medical records on normal vaginal birth, caesarean section and complicated delivery in nine hospitals in Shanxi Province, China. Interviews of staff and women who used or did not use hospital service were also conducted. The results of the audit were compared with WHO recommendations based on evidence on how birth can be made safer for women.
