Social Work

Develop the practical and analytical skills necessary for working professionally and safely with communities, families and individuals.
Social work student

Our graduates are culturally competent specialists, responding to complex situations, often working in areas with limited resources.

Graduate with a Bachelor of Social Work and provide practical support, information, advocacy, counselling, and emotional support for people experiencing personal and social problems. Create change by becoming an expert in social policy, community development or social research.

Social Work placements

Placements, also known as field education, is a key component of the social work curriculum, and an enjoyable and challenging time for students.

Field education provides students with the opportunity to integrate social work theory and knowledge in a government or non-government practice environment.

Intensive units

There are four ‘intensive’ units (one per year) in the social work degree. Each intensive includes a face-to-face workshop at our Casuarina campus in Darwin.

Intensives provide an excellent opportunity to develop and refine your social work skills, like counselling and group work, as well as integrating theory and practice. Intensive units are a great way to meet fellow students and build your professional relationships and knowledge.

Career pathways

You can have a rewarding career in government or non-government community and social services agencies, working with communities and organisations, families, young people, children, students, and seniors.

Prize giving

The Faculty of Health awards prizes to the highest achieving students in the Bachelor of Social Work. We look forward to celebrating with students at our annual prize giving ceremony.
