Changes to Student Contributions
The Australian Government will no longer set student contributions through the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). Instead, institutions will determine their own student contribution level for each course within ranges set by the Australian Government from $0 to a maximum of 25 per cent higher than the estimated HECS rates for that year. The exceptions are teaching and nursing, where the maximum will be set at the estimated HECS rates for that year. There will be no minimum levels for student contributions. Institutions will be able to set student contribution levels as low as they wish.
The maximum contribution range is based on:
- Students enrolling in a full-time load (80 credit points per year at Charles Darwin University - with most units being of a 10 credit point value)
- Units that are listed under the appropriate Field of Education as listed under each Band.
