2007/08 Higher Education Student Information

Permanent Residents

Holders of a permanent visa, who are offered a Commonwealth supported place, will be provided with a Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) so that they can access this place. SLE provides access to a Commonwealth supported place for seven years equivalent full-time study.

Holders of a permanent visa (other than a permanent humanitarian visa) and commenced a course as of 1 January 2005 will not be entitled to a HECS-HELP loan or a discount on up front payments. This means that those permanent visa holders enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place must pay their student contribution up front. They will not be eligible for a discount when they pay their student contribution up front.

Holders of a permanent humanitarian visa count as Australian citizens for eligibility.

Specific conditions apply to students who in 2005 continued in the same course of study they were enrolled in 2004. Conditions for both continuing and commencing students are available at the Going to uni website.
