Buying a bicycle
Darwin is well suited to bicycle transport, with a network of well-distributed bicycle paths. However, to prevent theft, lock your bicycle securely, preferably with a U-lock.
Used bicycles (bikes) are available from Cash Converters on the corner of Bagot Road and Macmillans Road, Coconut Grove or check Saturday's NT News or the Trading Post newspaper for lists of used bicycles for sale.
New bicycles may be purchased from:
- K-Mart, Big W and sport stores at Casuarina Shopping Square
- Toyworld, corner Stuart Highway and Vanderlin Drive, Berrimah
- Bikes to Fit, Coconut Grove
- Target, Palmerston Shopping Centre
- Wheelmans, Darwin city

Public buses
The Darwinbus service runs many regular bus routes covering Darwin and Palmerston. There is a bus stop at Casuarina campus located in front of the Information Centre. The number 'Four' bus stops at the university bus stop on route to Casuarina or the city. Fare discounts are given to students who produce their Charles Darwin University student cards.
The nearest bus interchange (station) is located next to Casuarina Shopping Square. You can obtain bus timetables and maps there. Visit the Bus and ferry services website for information about bus timetables and fare details.
Driver's licence
International students are only permitted to drive on their overseas license for the first three months of their stay in Australia. After this time, you must change to a Northern Territory driver's license.
To arrange a driver's license you will need to visit a Motor Vehicle Registration Office (MVR), details below.
You will need to take proof of identification (passport) and a confirmation of your residential address (usually a letter from the Student Facilitator (International Support), or a letter that you have received showing your Darwin address). You must sit a theory test, and students from certain countries may be required to do a practical driving test as well.
