How much does it cost?
Below is a list of expenses that you may incur as an Exchange student:
- Tuition fees
- Overseas health cover
- Student visa fee
- Accommodation
- Living expenses
- Endeavour Student Exchange Scholarships
- Centrelink Payments
- OS-Help Loan Scheme
Tuition fees
As an exchange student you will remain enrolled and pay your fees to CDU. If you normally access the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) to pay your fees, you can continue to do that whilst on exchange.
Compulsory overseas student health cover (OSHC)
You may be required to have overseas student health cover to satisfy the student visa requirements of the country that you will be going to.
Student visa fee
The student visa application fee will vary depending on which country you are going to and must be paid at the time your application is lodged. The fee is generally not refunded if your application is unsuccessful.
Accommodation
Accommodation costs will vary greatly depending on which country you are living in, and whether you choose to live on or off campus. Browse through the Universities websites to find out more about accommodation options that they recommend.
Living Expenses
Like Accommodation costs, living allowances will vary greatly depending on which country you are living in. In addition to living expenses many students choose to include funds for additional travel and sight seeing whilst they are abroad.
Endeavour Student Exchange Scholarships
The Endeavour Student Exchange Program is part of the Australian Government's Australian Scholarships. Under the Program, the Government provides funding to Australian higher education institutions to:
- set up and monitor student exchanges with counterpart higher education institutions in eligible countries in the Asia-Pacific region; and
- support the participation of both outgoing Australian undergraduate Bachelor degree exchange students and incoming undergraduate Bachelor degree exchange students in these exchanges.
CDU has been awarded scholarships of $5,000 each for undergraduate students' participation in eligible student exchanges. These scholarships are available to students who successfully apply for an exchange with a partner university. The number of scholarships are limited.
Centrelink payments
If you are the recipient of a study allowance from Centrelink you are normally eligible to continue to receive that benefit even whilst you are undertaking overseas study as part of the Study Abroad & Exchange program. You should contact Centrelink for further information.
