CDU's INITIATIVES AND ACTIVITIES IN TIMOR-LESTE
The future success of the world’s newest independent country is dependent on the sustainable development and management of its natural and human resources and industry and infrastructure. Due to its location and historical links with Timor-Leste, Charles Darwin University is well placed to play a key role in providing education, training, research, and consultancy services to support this capacity building.

East Timor Sunrise Incorporated
East Timor Sunrise Inc was established to provide both material and financial support to the people of East Timor until such time that the efforts of the local population make support unnecessary.
The work of East Timor Sunrise includes:
- Collection and transport of school furniture, school supplies, sports uniforms and sports equipment to Timor-Leste schools (begun in 2003);
- Collection and distribution of medical supplies to the Bairo Pite Medical Clinic in Dili (begun in 2003);
- Christmas gifts program (begun in 2004);
- Monthly financial support of $US2,700.00 a month to the Bakhita Centre in the Emera District (begun in August 2005 with US$2,000.00 per month);
- Provision of training, mentoring and professional development (begun in 2008);
- Horticultural development through:
- Provision of special horticultural shade cloth structures for both the Bakhita Centre and local farmers (begun in 2009);
- Micro-finance for local farmers to enable them to purchase shade cloth structure materials and better productivity seeds to enable extended annual farming periods (begun in 2010)
An objective of the East Timor Sunrise Inc. is to assist the Bakhita Centre to become self sufficient over time. This is being pursued through the development of a practical Business Plan in conjunction with the Bakhita Centre leaders.

An updated List of High State Officials and Senior Civil Servants of Timor-Leste has been prepared by the Democratic Governance Support Unit, United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT).
The list is freely available but it should be understood that it was compiled for internal reference purposes only.
It is assumed to be quite comprehensive and accurate however please note that the list is NOT an official document of the Government or of any other institution in this list.
