Your student computer account

What is a student computer account?

Your student computer account is the username and password you use to gain access to various information services provided by Charles Darwin University, including:

How do I activate my student computer account?

Activate your account through StudentNet. Access My Profile in the right hand menu, select Computer Account and follow the steps to activate your student computer account (if you need assistance contact ITMS Support on 8946 6600).

What do I need to have to activate my student account?

You can activate your student account if you meet the following requirements:

Important note for students under the age of 18: Should you be studying at the university and under 18 years of age, you will need to provide formal approval of a parent or guardian before your account can be created. Access the approval form (.pdf) and return to ITMS Support Desk, Red 3, Casuarina campus.

Note: You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view pdf files. Get Adobe Acrobat reader.

Where can I go to activate my student account?

You can activate your account from any Internet access point. Your home or work Internet connection will be fine, or any of the free Internet access points provided on Charles Darwin University campuses.

Access points include the 'kiosk' machines, most of which are in the Information Centre, and any of the computers in the General Purpose Computing Laboratories. Use the username 'kiosk' and the password 'cdukiosk'. This is a general access computer account and will do nothing more than open a web-browser for you to use.

Email

Students are entitled to an email service hosted by the university. This service is web-based (like Hotmail or similar) and is available wherever you can get access to the Internet. Its use is governed by the university's information technology policies and by-laws, and the Telecommunications Act.

General purpose computer labs

Casuarina labs

Casuarina campus has eight general PC labs located on Level 3 of Orange 1, which are accessible from 7:00am to 1:00am, seven days a week. You can gain access to the labs with your student card (used as a swipe-card) outside of business hours.

Palmerston labs

Palmerston campus has four general PC labs, two in Building A and two in Building C. The operating hours of the Palmerston campus labs are determined by BASD Palmerston, on 8946 7800.

NB: There are also individual, specialised labs within some faculties on campus - contact your faculty administration office for information about accessing these labs.

ID cards

Your student identity card is issued by Information Centre in Orange 1 of Casuarina campus. This card is used as photo-id, a door access card, and as a rechargeable photocopy card.

You are automatically issued with certain levels of security access, ie: to the general purpose computing labs in Orange 1, Casuarina campus, but you can apply for additional access, including air-conditioning access, as your studies demand. To gain additional security or air-conditioning access, contact your faculty administration office for approval and take your ID card to the Security Office in Red 2, Casuarina campus.

You must carry your ID card at all times while using any of the general purpose computing labs at the university.

Learnline

Learnline is the university's online learning and course management system. It utilises Blackboard, a suite of software products and services used to create and manage online courses. As a Learning Management System it offers students the opportunity to engage in rich learning activities and communicate with staff and other students while studying off campus.
