The Law School has now introduced a new feature as part of
the revamped School website: a weblog-style Daily
Bulletin. Its purpose is to give key academic and
administrative staff members a simple and speedy way to broadcast
important messages to the student body. Head of School
Professor Ned Aughterson; Co-Ordinator of Undergraduate Studies
Bill Herd; and Administrative Officer Jill Thyne may all post
messages on the Daily
Bulletin. All students should check the Daily
Bulletin frequently for messages relevant to their study
program.

Another new feature about to be introduced at NTU Law School
is a magazine or newsletter, to be published twice per semester
(or thereabouts). The Newsletter is intended not only for
NTU law students, but will also contain articles and information
of interest to the legal profession and general public.
The first edition of the Newsletter is currently in preparation
by staff with the able guidance of lapsed journalist and current
NTU law student Ian McMinn, and the expected publication date
is mid-February.
Student contributions to future editions are invited.
Although preparation of the Newsletter is well advanced,
we are yet to settle on a title for it. Something catchy;
a bit original; reflecting the spirit of NTU, Darwin and the
Northern Territory; perhaps witty though not too irreverent;
is what we're seeking.
So far we haven't come up with a name that really catches
the imagination. Accordingly we're inviting NTU law students
to participate in a "Name the Newsletter"
contest. Entries (not obscene or defamatory) should be sent
by email to Law School Administrative Officer Jill
Thyne. The judges' decision will be final, non-appellable
and not subject to judicial review of any sort. The prize
for the best entry will be announced here as soon as we've
decided an appropriate one.

From the Desk
of the Northern Territory University Law Students
Society
The NTU Law Students Society gives law students
the chance to meet with other students, school staff and legal
professionals in a social setting. The Society is comprised
of law students, elected by the student body and carries out
various social and academic events throughout the year. Such
events include monthly sundowners, participation in the Australasian
Law Students Association (ALSA) competition and conferences,
and the Annual Law Ball. The Society also acts as an avenue
for grievances by or concerning students.
Most importantly, the Society is only able
to operate effectively with the continued support and patronage
of the law students, or more directly, your support. Membership
is open to all NTU students, either with a full time load
under a combined degree, or on a part time basis. Enrol directly
to one of our representatives at the Society stall at the
Clubs and Society Sign-on Day.
