About CSEAL

The Centre for Southeast Asian Law is located in the Faculty of Law, Business and Arts of the Northern Territory University. As part of its Strategic Plan, the University has a special interest in and commitment to research in relation to matters concerning Southeast Asia.

Objectives of the Centre for Southeast Asian Law:

To promote research into and an understanding of Southeast Asian law and legal systems, especially commercial law fields such as intellectual property, financial market regulation, labour law and indigenous legal issues in Southeast Asia and Australia.

To promote an understanding of the Australian legal system and laws within South East Asia.

To promote research into and an understanding of comparative law.

To conduct courses and programs with a focus on Southeast Asian law and legal systems and comparative law.

To sponsor conferences and offer seminars and continuing legal education, with a focus on Southeast Asian law and legal systems and comparative law.

To provide a network for consultancies and research for individuals or bodies interested in Southeast Asian and comparative law.

To develop and foster links with universities and other institutions in South East Asia.

To foster an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Southeast Asian issues.

To cooperate with the legal profession in promoting the interests of the profession in South East Asia.
