Employability skills

From July 2006, the eight Employability Skills will progressively replace Key Competencies in all training packages. Training packages will have an Employability Skills Summary for each qualification that provides general information about industry application of the skills. Application is further embedded in the units of competency.

What will be required of VET staff?

CDU VET staff will need to demonstrate clearly how Employability Skills are developed and assessed in learning and assessment. This will mean identifying relevant industry application of these skills and then 'unpacking' units of competency to develop learning and assessment strategies and tools. Of course, many staff will find that they are already doing these things well.

The CDU approach

Building Employability Skills into practice is an opportunity for lecturers and teams to review and improve delivery and assessment, looking at how to bring it all together - technical skills and knowledge, and employability skills - resulting in improved outcomes for students.
