The Liaison Librarians are your primary support contact within the Library.

Liaison librarians assist academic staff in acquiring and integrating library resources into courses and units. We can advise academics and students on new electronic sources and how to use them.

Keep up to date with the Library services via your Liaison Librarian's blog and subject guide.

You are welcome to call or visit us in the Library with your queries or use our online AskUs service.

Alice Springs or Palmerston staff, can either contact your local Campus Library staff or their Liaison Librarian, who is based at Casuarina Campus, for assistance with our services and resources
.
Some of the key areas in which we can assist you are:

InfoSkills Support +

SUPPORT FOR YOU

One to one consultations
Your Liaison Librarian can show you what resources we have available and how to use them effectively.

Generic Program
Each semester a general program of tours and workshops is conducted at the Alice Springs, Casuarina and Palmerston Library for students and staff.

Workshops cover a range of topics such as How to locate items on a reading list, Introduction to EndNote referencing software and Tracking Research for PostGraduates. Check out the training calendar to see what is new.

Advanced Research skills
The Research Services Coordinator is available for individual consulation and also organises a series of advanced workshops for postgraduate research students and research staff during the year.

SUPPORT FOR YOUR STUDENTS

The Library provides a range of options to help foster the development of "information literacy" (infoskills) which aligns with the CDU graduate attribute “acquisition of personal practical knowledge”.

Common Units
The Researching Component of the Common Units program is targeted at all undergraduate students. The purpose of this component is to ensure all students have some basic awareness of locating and evaluating information effectively and efficiently using the library resources and the Internet.

Generic Program
Each semester a general program of tours and workshops is conducted at the Alice Springs, Casuarina and Palmerston Library for students and staff.

Subject based training
Specialised workshops can be developed to suit your subject requirements. Sessions may be brief introductions to some searching techniques or more intensive sessions targeting sources that are relevant to a set assessment task.

Contact your School Liaison Librarian or the Information Literacy Coordinator to discuss the options
call 08 8946 6193 or email library-liaison@cdu.edu.auremovenospam.

For Alice Springs staff to organise of book in for an information literacy session
call 8959 5233 or email alice.library@cdu.edu.auremovenospam.

One to one
While your students are welcome to call or visit us in the Library with their queries they can also use our online AskUs service. Just add the link to your unit in Learnline http://www.cdu.edu.au/library/askus.html.

Purchasing Resources +

Liaison Librarians order material throughout the year to meet the needs of teaching, learning and research needs of the university. You can ask for their assistance in locating new materials.

Set texts
The CDU Bookshop on Casuarina campus manages the acquisition of set texts. Please ensure any requests for set texts are provided to the Bookshop as early as possible before semester begins.

The Bookshop orders copies for students and notifies the Library of the set text details. The Library orders these books from each School’s Library budget and a copy is added to the general Library collection. A copy can be placed in Short Term Loan at your request.

Books & Multimedia items
You can order directly using the online Purchase Request form. It requires student or staff authentication.

Each School manages their library allocation differently, so please check with your Head of School as to who is your Library representative and who needs to authorise purchases within your area.
Library purchasing policy and procedures.

Acquiring TV/Radio programs
We can purchase recordings on your behalf from two main sources which allow copying under our Screenrights license. Programs purchased in this way can be copied into a LearnLine unit.
Enhance TV and the South Australian Education Department's TAPE Services. Anything you order will be treated as a normal information resouce and come out of your School/Cluster library allocation.

Databases & Journal subscriptions
The Library regularly new databases or you can contact your Liaison Librarian with a suggestion.

Database trials and requests for feedback are advertised via the Library homepage and Liaison blogs. As databases and journals are expensive items with recurring costs and their purchase often needs to be negotiated with a supplier,we greatly appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

Using & Promoting Resources +

Subject Guides & Blogs

Liaison Librarians create subject guides and blogs to promote new resources and advise students and staff on the most effient ways to locate information for their research and assignments. We can develop resources to support students with specific assignments. Links to blogs and subject guides can be added to Learnline.

Video & Audio
The Liaison team has created a range of support materials. From simple explanations of how to check borrowing records to comprehensive Researching Skills interactive tutorials. If you have an idea for an online tutorial let us know.

E-Reserve
You can arrange for printed articles, brochures, chapters of books, journal articles to be scanned and converted to PDF and added to the Library E-Reserve database for your subject.

Step by Step guidelines are available on the E-Reserve webpage.

You can link from E-Reserve to your subject in LearnLine. Please do not simply add articles to LearnLine without letting E-Reserve know as you may be in breach of copyright.

Short Term Loans
Books and other materials are placed in the Short Term Loan collection due to their being in high demand. Materials are placed on the recommendation of academic staff using this form. New set texts will need to be ordered at the CDU bookshop first.

Short Term Loans are either for 48 hours, or for extremely high demand, items 4 hour Library use only

Showing & linking TV/Radio programs
Familiarise yourself with the ScreenRights guidelines and options. If you wish to have content available via LearnLine please contact TLDG.
