Mission
The Office of Library Services (OLS) will support the Charles Darwin University’s mission by providing high quality library and information services to support staff and prepare students to be creative and effective thinkers in a complex changing world.
Vision
The library and information services provided by the Office of Library Services (OLS) will be integral to the teaching, learning and research activities of the university, and highly valued by the university community.
To support the high value Charles Darwin University places on freedom of inquiry, Office of Library Services will continue to play a major role in development of information literacy, which is seen as a means of personal and national advancement in today's information dependent society.
Information literacy vision statement
The staff of the Office of Library Services will have a strong client focus, emphasising fairness and respect in our dealings with clients. They will be committed to the integral nature of library and information services, highly trained to provide these services, and contribute to local, national and international developments.
The operations of the Office of Library Services will be driven by the principles of quality: documentation, measurement, benchmarking, continuous improvement and innovation.
Values
The Office of Library Services is committed to the principles of affirmative action, equal opportunity and access in the provision of information services.

Committees
Library Indigenous Reference Group (LIRG)
The Library Indigenous Reference Group was established by Director Office of Library Services (OLS) in 2007 in response to the inclusion of Indigenous issues as part of the University’s Futures Framework: 1st in 5 in 10.
LIRG Terms of Reference are to advise LIA Management on:
- The development of library services appropriate for Indigenous clients in a tertiary setting;
- Collection development and management practices that are appropriately relevant, balanced and accessible;
- Strategies for increasing the number of indigenous staff with library experience and qualifications;
- Raising awareness of Indigenous knowledge management and intellectual property issues.

The group meets three times per year in March, August, and November. All documentation relating to the group will be held in LIA Administration.
