NOTE: Alice Springs students and staff who normally use Alice Springs Campus, please ensure you use the Casuarina Campus option on the registration and request forms from 20th December until further notice.
Registration for service
A registration form is required each year by all clients who wish to use this service. Students and staff who live within 80km of Alice Springs Campus should use the Alice Springs Campus Library on the drop down menu of the forms.
Who can use the service?
Charles Darwin University PhD, doctorates, masters by research, postgraduate honours students and coursework masters students have the following limits to the number of requests during the period of candidature:
- PhD (100% research)- 200 requests
- Other Doctorates (66%)(e.g. DCTEAC, DCTEM) - 150 requests
- Masters by research - 100 requests
- Postgraduate honours - 50 requests
- Masters by coursework - 50 requests
The cost of any Interlibrary Loans by academic and research staff will be deducted from the library's information resource allocation (IRA) for the relevant School or from individual research funds. There is also a resource allocation for deduction of costs for postgraduates undertaking research.
Each request by CDU undergraduate students and general must be authorised by their lecturer/supervisor. The cost will be deducted from the library's Information Resource allocation for the relevant faculty. Requests can be submitted without authorisation, but prepayment is required - please contact us for further enquiries.
TIPS
- Check the CDU Library catalogue first before you submit your request. Valuable staff time can be taken up dealing with requests that are held by us either in print or electronic format.
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Plan ahead to allow sufficient time for delivery
- Provide a date by which material is required
- Give the source of your citation
- You do not need to know where the item is held - we source it for you
- Collect any physical items in timely manner as advised by staff
- Return loans in timely manner as overdue items attract fines

Note: Post graduates should use the Post Graduate Inter library loans option under School / Centre / Research Fund on the resquest form.
If you are a staff member requesting a copy for E-Reserve, please use the relevant request form and we will forward the item on to E-Reserve staff members upon receipt. Please refer to the Copyright Act, 1968 and the Copyright Amendment (Digital Agenda) Act 2000 (Cth).
Timeframes for Delivery of Requests
It is not possible to guarantee an exact time of delivery for items requested. Delivery is dependent upon a number of factors including accuracy of the details provided by the requester, location of supplier, availability, supply source and the time spent in transit. Only some of these factors are within the Library's control.
Items not readily available nationally will be sourced from overseas suppliers and may take a little longer, particularly books where avaialble for loan and costs are subject to supplier's policy. If your request is taking some time to source, we will keep you updated of progress.
