TV & Radio programs
A really good program on television or radio last night, last week or perhaps coming up soon?
Here are some things you should know about showing it in class.
You can ask the library to purchase copies before or after the program has run. Clearly of course we cannot get the program recorded before it is broadcast , unless it’s already available as a repeat, but this does mean you can prepare for its availability.
We can purchase recordings on your behalf from two main sources which allow copying under our Screenrights license. This means a copy can be made available via LearnLine, something you cannot do with an ordinary commercial or rental DVDs.
- Enhance TV - provides study guides for some programs
- South Australian Education Department’s TAPE Services
Anything you order will be treated as a normal information resource and come out of your School/Cluster library allocation.
Purchase request form | Library purchasing guidelinesA useful site to see what is on is this Channel 7 site that lists all Australian television programs state by state and networks both free to air and Pay TV networks.
The Screenrights licence allows you to copy as much as you like
Copy any program anytime, anywhere | Copy programs from home (applies to teachers and students) on behalf of our educational institution | Copy entire programs or excerpts| Copy anything on free-to-air TV, pay-TV, Radio
Make up compilation tapes of material you have copied | Copy in any format - VHS, DVD, CD, PC | Make copies of copies | Keep copies as resources in our library| | Email copies to students or make them available online for students or staff
Broadcast copies within our institution | Make the copy available on Learnline (as long as it's secure so only our students and staff can view) |Show tapes in class or the library
The only requirement are that we have a
- Screenrights licence in place (it is)
- that the copy is made for the educational purposes of the institution
- that it is labeled appropriately
If you wish to have content available via LearnLine please contact TLDG.
Also note that we cannot offer the option to academic staff of taping a program at home and then getting TLDG to digitise it for a learnline unit as the technology and staff resources are not available at this time.
You may record onto DVD at home and show it in class and send it to the Library for inclusion into the collection for other staff to use, but it can't be utilised for Learnline purpose. Please contact your Liaison Librarian for more information.
